How To Communicate With Your Teenager

Communication is the key of having a healthy relationships with your children and you need to start having conversations from a very young age but mind you, it should not be one sided. The child should also participate equally.

Try to be more informed, if you don’t know the answers admit it and try to find answer with your teen. The child should be satisfied, especially with sex related issues. You can never help your child develop a healthy attitude toward sex if you yourself are not aware.

The child should know the consequences of there actions. They should be aware of sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy and how to avoid it. This is a misconception that talking on such topics is an invitation to the teens to have sex.

Awareness helps the child to use the information in developing the skills to make healthy decisions regarding sexual relationships.

The child should always have the confidence that no matter what but you are there to help him out. You need to become an informed and ask able parent so that instead of asking his friends for advice on any issues the child is able to take your guidance.

As a parent you need to have some rules and regulations, curfew time, dating age, night outs. You need to be clear about your values and consequences on breaking them. You should not be rigid but children need some discipline. Boundaries are to be set for them in areas like education, safety and avoidance of illegal activities.

There is no need to bother about small stuff like not completing the homework once in a while or not keeping the room clean or not using the soap everyday. Let the small stuff go.

Remember, teenage is the most influncial time of a child’s life. Make sure you are there to guide them in the right direction.
