How To Deal With a Flirtatious Partner?

Who doesn’t enjoy a little bit of flirting? Everybody does. It’s fun, often harmless and definitely gives a boost to our confidence. However, when you are in a relationship with someone who just can’t fight back their impulses to flirt even when they are with you, things get ugly.

A harmless little thing, flirting causes more problems in relationships than anything else. Flirting with someone when already with a partner can make the partner feel disrespected and inadequate in many ways. It gives rise to jealousy which is one of the most corrupting emotions that one could feel.

When you are in a situation where your partner is acting flirtatious, you might feel inconsolable and might not be able to see any possible solution; however, there are ways to deal with this situation also.

Find out why your partner flirts. If you and your partner are an ‘item’, there is certainly something in you that draws them to you and makes them want to be with you. Why then does your partner have to flirt so much? The reasons could be as simple as a high level of self confidence. It could also be that your partner needs to reaffirm their charm and hold over the opposite sex. Maybe your partner is attracted to someone and their natural impulses of flirting just follow through. However, do not be alarmed yet. Just because your partner is attracted to someone does not mean that they are not attracted to you or that they will eventually cheat on you. It could also be that your partner has lost interest in you and unfortunately is really interested in hitting it off with another person.

If your partner’s flirtatious behavior bothers you, talk to them and seek out their responses. Being straightforward usually helps so keep it simple. Tell them that you are uncomfortable and ask them their reason for flirting. If your partner is really interested in you, they will realize that they make you feel hurt and disrespected. They will mend their ways or at least make an attempt. However, if they are not really interested, they will either blow you off or keep acting the way they used to. Take the hint and part ways. It is better to part your ways here before the situation gets out of hands and they do something that hurts you even more.

Approach the subject gently though. You do not know why your partner behaves in the manner they do. So don’t jump to conclusions and certainly don’t give any ultimatums. A flirtatious partner is very damaging for your relationship so sort out the situation before it gets worse and your self esteem sinks. Avoid the unpleasantness by dealing with it quickly.
