How To Deal With a Snoring Partner?

Do you sleep with someone who snores? It’s likely then that you either are a very sound sleeper or suffer from severe lack of sleep.

Snoring doesn’t stay just to your bedroom. If you are experiencing trouble sleeping because of your spouse’s snoring, chances are that you remain irritable and have difficult performing your day to day functions. Research has found out that the partners of people who snore generally lose about 3 hours of sleep everyday on an average.

Your memory and concentration also suffers for the lack of sleep and it affects your health and your relationship. When you are generally feeling irritable and tired, confrontations with your spouse increases significantly and the household environment gets completely ruined. Your sex life may also get affected.

Sharing your bed is an intimate part of your relationship with your spouse or partner. It has cultural and social implications. Sharing your bed increases intimacy and strengthens your bond with each other. If you decide to sleep in a different room than your snoring spouse, it takes a huge toll on your intimacy.

Many people try prodding their partners, kicking them or pinching them to reduce the sound. Those who have done this realize quickly that their actions are not having any tangible effects. The snoring continues to ruin your sleep. The worst part is, that most of the times, the person who snores doesn’t know how bad the problem is. They seem to think that you are making a big deal of something that can be dealt quietly.

You may try to go to sleep wearing ear plugs at night. It might not completely remove the sounds but will definitely reduce the volume of the sound.

Snoring is certainly not a part of the sleeping routine. It is something that can be corrected with therapy and practice. Understand that and communicate with your partner. Take them to a sleep therapist and get the snoring out of your marital bed.
