How To Make New Friends?

Being alone has its benefits, you can do what you want and have a lot of time to yourself. But life without friends can be very lonely. People you are with, at work or school may not be friend material. Don’t get disheartened, diversify your options. Follow these steps and meet new people and form lasting friendships.

Try to be more social:
Go out and meet people. Sitting at home and watching T.V will not help. People will not come knocking at your door. Join a club with people who have common interest as it becomes easier to start a conversation and plan activities. You can even join a sport team. There is no need for you to be a good player. Join a local team which is not very competitive and play the game just to enjoy. Another way of bonding with people is through volunteering.

Talk:
You may socialize a lot, go to church or participate in different activities, meet people but if you don’t talk you can never make friends. Start a conversation but keep it light and cheery. Be open to others and don’t pre judge anyone.

Initiate a get together:
Invite people to your house or throw a party. Avoid being sucked into instant messaging or phoning old friends.

Be careful while choosing friends:
Stay away from people who want to use you or people who are negative.

Be a good friend:
Help out your friends in need, be nice to them, listen to what they are saying, don’t brag all the time. Nobody likes to be with the person who is self absorbed. Don’t be a fare weather friend. Be there when they need you or your shoulder to cry on. Be trustworthy, you should be able to keep secrets. Never gossip about others.

Internet:
You can make friends through web or you can create your own web where like minded people can participate or join you.

To love and to be loved is the greatest happiness of existence but you cannot find good friends in one day, it takes time and effort so have patience and take it easy.
