How to prevent a second heart attack

There are ways you can prevent a second heart attack, but you cannot do it on you own. You need the guidance of your doctor on diet and exercise. Moreover, you also need to follow your medical prescription as directed by the physician. Furthermore, keep you visits with your doctor regular.

Quit smoking.If you do, you can cut your attack into half, giving up the habit. Avoid passive smoking by not going to places where people smoke. Women should also avoid the contraceptives that are injected.

Heart attack survivors should get less than thirty percent of there calories from fat, and less than 7% from animal fat. Avoid cookies, doughnuts, fried food or foods that contain Trans fat. Add more fruits, veggies and whole grains. Check with your doctor, there are diets which can actually reverse heart disease by reducing the amount of blockage in the arteries. Give a boost to your heart by adding cold water fish like- Atlantic salmon and mackrell fish, which is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Add more garlic and onion in your food. They are natural blood thinners.

A study showed that a person who had one heart attack can reduce the risk of a second by taking aspirin. Aspirin is believed to help in preventing blood clotting.

Get active. Regular exercise such as brisk walking for thirty to forty minutes can halve the risk of heart disease. Exercise will help you control your blood pressure and weight but you need to begin it on a very modest level.

Intake of two glasses of wine everyday also helps in cutting the risk of a heart attack. Another thing which can help is eating dark chocolate or drinking hot cocoa regularly. Research revealed that coco beans have chemicals which prevent blood clotting.
