How to Prevent Esophageal Cancer?

The only way to stay away from esophageal cancer is by giving up totally tobacco and alcohol. Smoke has the harmful carcinogens that are capable of damaging the DNA, which is responsible for the full cell growth. It has been found that nearly ¾ of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma as well as the Aden carcinomas happens on account of alcohol consumption for long continued years. It’s better to stay away from drinking or can take alcohol in moderation so as to reduce the chances of this kind of cancer.

It has always been recommended to eat more fruits and vegetables. The one which has more beta-carotene, vitamin A, C and B-1 are the best. They can fight against the deadly esophageal cancer. Fruits that are green, orange, and yellow in color are the best. Vegetables like spinach, cantaloupe, Swiss chard, bok choy, acorn, butternut squash, mango and sweet potatoes are suggested.

One should also consume vegetables from the cabbage family like the sprouts, cabbage Brussels and broccoli. An important ingredient that is found in the tomato is the lycopene. It is also found in other red colored vegetables and fruits like the strawberries, red bell peppers. They are very good for the health on account of its anti cancer chemical properties.

Diet should also include selenium as major important ingredient. They are available in milk, fish, whole grain; broccoli etc. an adult on an average should consume 55 micrograms of selenium everyday.

Also people who have suffered with Barrets esophagus are recommended for the aggressive treatment of GERD. This is important to prevent any chances of esophageal cancer in future.  Such people are suggested for regular endoscopies. The screening may help in detecting eth cancer at early stage.

It also has been noted that an overweight or obese person is more subjected to esophageal cancer and other health ailments like cardiovascular problems, diabetes etc. hence it is better to loose weight in steady way to evade any such cases in future.
