How To Prevent Hay Fever In Your Babies

You may experience sleepless nights if your baby suffers from hay fever. The symptoms exhibited by hay fever like blocked/runny nose and sneezing may make your baby’s condition miserable.

It is very painful experience for the parents to see their child in discomfort caused by any sorts of ailments. If your baby is allergic, you would like to prevent the flare-ups. Given below are some tips on how to prevent hay fever in your babies.

Hay fever is typically caused by allergens such as pollens, moulds, spores, and animal dander. So your efforts should begin with keeping your baby away from these allergens as far as possible.

Usually hay fever is seasonal and may affect your baby more in summer and spring seasons. During these months you should get information about the pollen count from the weather forecasts bulletins.

If the pollen count is high, the preventive step should be to keep your baby indoors as much as possible. Generally the levels of pollen are likely to be at their highest during the early evening and in the morning time. Hence at these times you should minimize your baby’s activities outside.

You should keep your baby away from the place where someone is mowing the lawn. On these days when pollen is high, do not put your baby’s clothes outside for airing because pollen may enter these clothes easily and may cause irritation to your baby later on.

Pollen can enter your house through your pets. So when the pet gets indoors on a high pollen day wash it or wipe down its fur with a moist cloth. Keep your baby’s room practically dust and smoke free.

It is difficult to keep the carpet free from dust. You must either vacuum clean them regularly or replace them with polished floors. Do not let anyone smoke near your baby or in your baby’s room. Also avoid keeping flowers in your baby’s room.

Wash your baby’s hands and face regularly. This will help in preventing accumulation of dust and pollen around your baby’s mouth and nose. Use dehumidifier in your baby’s room.

It will help to prevent common allergens from surviving in the room. If you are traveling with your baby on a day having high pollen count, keep the windows of your vehicles closed and use internal air conditioning system. You may also use car filters.
