How to protect yourself from HPV and its infections!

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the biggest culprit today in spreading genital warts, cervical cancer and other sexual diseases. Numerous types of HPV have been discovered in which HIV6 and HIV11 are the prime causal agents for cancers and STDs.

Some of the HPV types might not be strong enough but some others, like HIV16, 31, and 45 can cause cervical and other genres of cancers.

Normally HPV undergoes a latency period before surfacing out in forms of signs or symptoms. The intensity or the degree of the ailment is determined by the time lag in its dormancy period. A few of the variants can cause a simple infection that subsides by itself. However, it is advised to be cautious in sexual intercourse as HPV spreads through this medium only.

Most people who have a active sexual life should get themselves vaccinated with the latest vaccine that is out for HPV related cancers or should use a condom for sexual intercourse with new partners. During sexual intercourse, try to use condom regularly but it is also not considered an effective solution as HPV can infect areas like thighs and other spots which are not covered by condoms. Hence, proper care has to be taken while going for sexual intercourse.

Other preventive measures that you can take are to avoid oral sex or using earlier used objects. These might be contaminated and the effects are severe if you are having sex with different partners. There has been research statistics stating that people who change partners more often are more prone to catching HPV.

Preventing the spread of the HPV virus is the best way to get treated but this might not be possible. If you have already caught the virus or not sure of whether you are infected, regular medical supervision is required due to varying effects of the virus on different people.

There are medicines and vaccinations available which can help extend the latency period of the virus and thus the symptoms and warts take more time to surface out. Apart from that, there are ointments and lotions available to lessen the intensity of already existing virus disease. Those who have forgotten should again recall that ‘Prevention is better than cure’ and HPV is a cousin of HIV in terms of fatal repercussions. So instead of wasting money on costlier treatments, avoid sexual intercourse with multiple partners and follow safe and secure sex tips.
