How To Stop Child Obesity?

Child obesity is on the rise and has tripled in the past thirty years. Obesity in children is completely the parents fault. As a care taker it’s your duty to inculcate healthy eating habits and physical exercise in your children. For that matter make sure you prepare a nutritional plan for your child that looks after his/her metabolic, growth and energy needs.

One of the important things that have to be checked is- the portion of the food. It should neither be too big nor too small. If a child eats more than required then he/she gains weight and if they eat less, they starve. The food portion depends upon children to children, varying due to several factors such as – age, how physically active the kid is etc.

More and more children are becoming addicted to TV and like to spend most of there time in front of it.’ Couch potatoes’ gain weight very rapidly. The body needs activity and lack of it makes one over weight. This is the case especially in children who like to munch sugary and fatty foods along with watching television. Basically, there is no way for the body to burn those extra calories without physical exercise. For that matter, it’s your duty as a parent to restrict TV watching hours for you kids and push them to go out and play or join some physical activity.

Children who eat-out daily are also prone to weight gain. There is a culture in kids to go outside for ‘eats’ with the peer group. These “eat outs” usually happen in fast food joints. Children love burgers and fries and do not realize there health disadvantages, if consumed very frequently. As a parent it’s your job to make sure your kids eat home made food only, on regular basis. Give them permission to eat out not more than thrice a month.

Educate your children of the disadvantages of being over weight and what all foods and habits can cause this problem. By giving them regular lectures on this issue you will keep them informed and apprehensive.
