How to Teach your Teenage Kid the Advantages of Staying Out of Sun

Getting sun tan has become more of a fashion fad; this trend seems to be soon catching up with young teenagers too. Teenagers or young adults are overlooking the importance of sun protection for their look. Even studies reveals that more than 10,000 children and adolescents are making use of tan and tanning beds to get the bronze skin. The study even revealed that only 1/3 of the kids of age group of 12-18 made use of regular sun screen while 10% of them made used of tanning bed to get the tan.

Sun burn case has become quite common and every kid reports of sun burning case at least once in their life time. Even the American academy of pediatrics warns the high school students that continual exposure to the sun can lead to premature aging of skin; this could be in the form of wrinkles, sagging cheeks and discoloration of skin.

The long term exposure can lead to skin cancer too. Even the now so popular bulb tanning parlors and salons emit UV rays which are harmful for the skin.  Doctors say that there is no such word like safe tan as all kinds of tan can lead to sun damage. The most deadly is the melanoma skin cancer.

One can ensure safety just by taking simple steps and measures and can safe guard their skin from the deadly skin cancer. The very first defense line is to cover up from the sun. Wear hat, scarf and sun glasses and cotton clothing with good weave. Ensure to be in shade wherever possible and try to be inside at the peak hours of the sun. By doing this you can evade the chances of developing tan and sun burn. Make use of very good quality sun screen or block and re-apply every two hours.
