Hurting After Your Breakup? Give Your Self Esteem A Boost

Relationships, no matter how intimate, can break up and whenever it happens, it bruises the ego of the one on the receiving side. The break doesn’t have to be ugly or violent. The act itself is enough to injure one’s feelings and many a times, self esteem.

A break up always leads to some amount of self doubt. Most of the times, this self doubt is absolutely unnecessary. However, the damage that the break up does can be quite sizeable. Here’s how you can nurse your self esteem back to health after you have said your final goodbyes.

1. Change the way you look. This goes for both men and women. Get a new hairstyle or a new wardrobe. Try out a new dressing style. Buy new shoes. Splurge. Women could try new make up. Men could go for funky looking facial hair. Do something to make yourself look different. When you look different, you will realize that feeling different is very easy.

2. Go to a spa and indulge yourself. Exotic aromas, oils, salts and scrubs are a great way to pamper yourself. Get that long overdue pedicure. Book yourself for a head to toe massage and let your body ease under the expert hands of the masseurs.

3. Join a gym or yoga class. If you’ve been making excuses to avoid the gym, now is the time to get in shape. Think of all the admiring glances that would come your way and use that as motivation to get in shape. Even if you are already fabulously shapely, having a work out routine can be beneficial for both your mood and your health!

4. Start a diary or a journal. A journal is an excellent way to record your daily experiences. For most people, going back to their journal and reading old entries is a way to benchmark how much they have grown or matured. You can also draw on your past experiences to make your present experiences better.

5. Eat well. Food can be really therapeutic. If you are eating well, it shows from your skin. People who eat well are healthy both in the body and in the mind. Binging on food or avoiding meals because of your mood can take a serious toll on your health.

No matter how you choose to get over your relationship, do something that makes you feel good about yourself. When you are feeling good inside, it will show. Who knows, when you might run into the perfect stranger!
