Importance of Brain Exercises
Brain starts regenerating as we age. It needs regular stimulation to stay alert and active. Just like the rest of our body needs exercise and movement to stay healthy, our brain also needs to be exercised. Human brain has the ability to continually adapt and rewire itself. Even in old age you can protect yourself from brain related problems.
Most of the time, the degeneration of the brain is due to lack of mental stimulation. You need to use it as much as you can if you don’t want to lose it. This is one reason why old people start losing there mind. In fact your brain starts getting old when you stop using it.
If you see all-around yourself or watch young people, they are always eager to learn things and like to explore things around them. They are ready to take challenges. But as we age the drive to do new things start diminishing and we put all the blame on our age. But this is false because brain can continue to grow and improve through out our life if we exercise it.
Try to do things you have never done before. This challenges your brain to learn new things, for example, using the hand you normally do not use for performing the tasks. Your brain has to struggle to bring coordination and control. Learning a new language, reading, playing games like chess, scrabble, playing video games or making new things will help in stimulating the brain.
Even performing everyday task differently is good enough, for example, going to different stores for grocery, using different hand to eat, communicating visually rather verbally, taking a different root to your office, dressing up with your eyes closed. Shake up your every day routine. Basically you need to stimulate the brain to think. Don’t let your brain go in neutral, keep changing the gears.
