Irritable Bowel Syndrome Diet

Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition of intestine. It is abbreviated as IBS. One can easily control this condition by altering the food habits. One should be very careful about their food intake in this condition. It has been observed that this condition is more prevalent among young women as young as 20 yrs of age.

Tips for diet in Irritable bowel syndrome:-

Fiber is an important constituent of food. It is essential for the smooth functioning of the intestine. Fibers are basically of two types, soluble and insoluble. Both have different functions and in this intestinal case one has to take both kinds of fibers. Some of the good soluble fibers are citrus fruits and beans. The insoluble kind of fiber is found in bread made of whole grain, wheat bran and vegetables.

One has to take special care that though consumption of food in general is not harmful but certain category of food may worsen the condition. Food rich in fat and caffeine can aggravate the condition. Similarly chocolates and alcohol are not good. Gaseousness is another problem with which most of the people suffer. In such cases avoid intake of food and vegetables that increase the formation of gas like, cabbage, Brussels, beans, banana etc.

Dairy and its products can also harm you. This is also an indication that your body is intolerant towards lactose. In such case seek the medical help.

One should concentrate on healthy eating. Stay away from animal fat. Keep the body hydrated with sufficient quantity of water. Instead of consuming 3 large meals, eat small and frequent meals. Small meals are easy to digest and are best to deal with stress. Those who drink or smoke should avoid doing these two activities especially

An ideal meal should have approx. 25-30 Gms fiber and 30-35 Gms of fat; they should be derived from variety of sources. Fresh fruits, muesli, porridge, lean meat, poultry, salad, should be consumed in proper way.
