Irritable Male Syndrome
Men have their mood swings. These mood swings are known as IMS or Irritable Male Syndrome. This IMS happens in the form of oscillations of emotions from getting happy and sad, feeling grumpy, lethargic and exhausted, depressed, over-sensitive and even irritable.
This is not a major problem and you need not worry about it. As experts say that this up and down of emotions is actually a healthy phenomenon. Sometimes men feel these ups and downs of emotions even stronger than women. But it becomes a problem if this happens very frequently. This may in turn affect the life and relationships badly.
There is myth involved that only women have mood swings. One cannot confine moodiness on the basis of gender. In fact men are also emotional just like the women. It’s because that they are men and because of the taboo, they are not allowed to show it. Sometimes with the burdening of emotions a man may get numb. Why cannot a man be accepted or allowed to show his moods or expressions? We see that these mood swings are not easy to spot. But when they come out they are in the form of emotional spurts.
Symptoms:-
We can see when a man is not able to rationalize his true feelings. One can see that the man is constantly harboring the feelings of jealousy. Bouts of anger are common to be noticed. He lacks sleep and may even suffer from fear or paranoia. The man may become more withdrawn. Under such circumstances men should keep a close watch on themselves and try to analyze themselves.
Studies have proven that with hormonal fluctuations in men, psychological and physiological changes also take place. One of the main reasons of IMS is fall in testosterone levels. IMS is male version of Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS). And proper investigation has to be done. Sometimes anti-depressants are also suggested and given. IMS can be confusing as the signs of appearance are subtle.
