Is Consumption Of Cola/Coke Unsafe In Pregnant Mothers?
Pregnancy phase is one of the most important and delicate phase in every woman’s life. It is the time when the lady undergoes incredible mental and physical changes. The main stress is on the diet that the lady should take. There are some do’s and don’ts which every pregnant mother should practice. An expecting mother should not consume alcohol and should give up smoking too. But there are other stuffs about which the pregnant woman should be educated and should stay away from consuming it.
One of the most cynical issues is about the consumption of coke or cola in pregnant mothers. Though there still are no good substantiation to give support over this issue and the effects on the fetus and the mother. But still to be on safer side it is recommended to stay away from consumption of cola/coke during the entire pregnancy phase.
The sweetener aspartame that is present in the beverage is harmful for the fetus and the mother. And if consumed regularly can affect the health treacherously. It is advised not to drink such beverages during the entire pregnancy phase. But if one is unable to control the enticement then consumption in moderation is suggested. This artificial sweetener aspartame which is also known as “nutra sweet” is a nil calorie sweetener. This sweetener is also present in numerous diet foods and other sodas and how can they be harmful?
Studies suggest that when aspartame is stored at 20 degree centigrade then becomes venomous. As in temperatures above 20 degree centigrade it breaks into formaldehyde, it may lead to formaldehyde poisoning in pregnant mothers. The side effects can be in form of nausea, headaches, dizziness, numbness, spasm in muscles, anxiety attack, difficulty in breathing, irritability, abnormal heart palpitation etc. under extreme cases it may even lead to cancer.
Remember a pregnant woman has to be extra careful about her diet. Health is important and care should be taken for the developing fetus.
