Is it ok for a woman to earn more than her husband?
Financial independence has its price and a lot of women soon find out that it is difficult to balance their career and their personal life. At some point, family conflicts arise because of professional jealousies between the husband and the wife. Some women who make more money than their husbands eventually find themselves in very difficult situations.
Of course it is alright for the wife to earn more money than her husband but things can get quite sticky when the husband gets overly jealous on the success of his wife. At some point, the condition of professional jealously between the husband and wife gets out of hand that the couple ends up in a bitter divorce. Since professional jealousy can result to family breakups, marriage and family therapists suggest that couples should adhere to certain rules to keep the peace. According to marriage counselors, couples should always maintain an open communication line to let each other know about their problems and insecurities.
If the husband feels emasculated because his wife earns more money than he does, he should not hesitate to communicate his feelings to his wife. On the other hand, the wife should always be sensitive to the feelings of her husband. Almost all researchers have said that both of the husband and the wife should bear in mind that money is not the base of power nor is it the foundation of the relationship.
Since money can be quite a sensitive issue, both the husband and the wife should avoid starting a financial discussion at the dinner table. The couple should make it a point to discuss money matters only at an appointed time. Aside from keeping an open communication line, the couple should keep a fair division of labor in the house. Just because the wife earns more money than the husband that does not mean that she gets away from doing her fair share of the housework. To make sure that everyone gets to do their fair share of the household chores, couples should make a list of things to do around the house and divide these tasks among themselves equitably.
Its not easy but if you really work at it, you can make sure that money never raises its evil head in your relationship!
