Is It Time To Move In Together Yet
Moving in together with your partner is one of life’s most exciting and life altering decisions. There are many reasons to take the plunge but as wonderful as it sound, living in with another person is a huge commitment and means a lot more than just sharing personal space with someone.
Here are a few pros and cons
Pros
1. Paying the rent for that fabulous condo that you had been eyeing might not be possible all by yourself. Getting your partner to share the rent can be a great way of saving money while being able to afford a better standard of living.
2. Moving to and fro from your significant other’s place can be a hassle. Many people spend most of their time at their partner’s house anyway. Living together in such circumstances makes much more sense even if you are not looking for a long term commitment.
3. You can test the waters before making a long term commitment by staying together for sometime. Moving in together can give you a heads up on what to expect if you move on to make a long term commitment with your partner.
Cons
1. Sharing living expenses with your partner also means that you need to have them on board every time you want to make a little change to the apartment. Both the assets and the liabilities also have to be shared. If one of you is earning more than the other, differences might creep up eventually.
2. If both of you are not on the same page regarding long term commitment, there could be problems. It just might happen that you are casual about the move and are not immediately planning a long term commitment; your partner might be seeing your moving in together as an obvious pathway to marriage.
It is important to take your time and to think long and hard whether moving in together is the right thing for you and your partner. If it doesn’t work out, you can always leave, but it can be emotionally taxing for both you and your partner.
