Is Your Child Allergic To Pets?

We all love pets and in most of the family’s pets are the integral part of the family unit. Pets bring pleasure and keeping them can be fun too. But maintaining a pet is a weighty task as one may get prone to the animal allergies. Parents play a vital role in coping up with these situations.

Causes of pet allergies-
Most of us believe that the allergy due to pets is on account of the fur of the animals, but this is not true. Experts have something else to say. According to them, allergies due to pets happen due to the proteins that get secreted through the oil glands. This protein is in the form of skin and is also known as dander. It is the protein in the saliva and urine.

Apart from these the environmental and genetic factors also lead too pet allergic reactions. The symptoms can be seen when the children come in constant touch with the pets. It gets multiplied through air and can contact the eyes too.

Symptoms-
Some of the most common associated symptoms are itchy and watery eyes. It can lead to coughing and wheezing or blockage in the nose. Hay fever kind of symptoms may also develop and constant sneezing may happen. The skin surface may develop rashes and may itch too.

Diagnosis-
When the parents see abnormal reactions in the child then they should rush immediately to a doctor. The doctor after complete diagnosis of blood or skin prick test can tell the course of treatment.

Treatment and prevention-
The doctor may prescribe topical solutions, ointments, and oral medications depending on the type of allergy and the area that is affected. By preventing the entry of pets to all the rooms of the house (like the kitchen and bed room) one can ensure that the symptoms can be controlled. The floor rugs, mats etc should be kept clean and dusted daily. The air filters are best for better air circulation and will keep the air clean form dust and dander particles. Keep the pet’s clean. Give them bath regularly and brush them often.
