Keep The Heart Healthy With Almonds

Magnesium is one of the most vital minerals that is needed for our body. It is the strong antioxidant that keeps us healthy and strong. It is true that small deficiencies in food can deprive you to lead a healthy life. One of the most common symptoms of magnesium deficiency is nausea, irritability and weakness in the muscles. But the fact also remains that as we age the absorption of magnesium in the body reduces. Hence we can easily say that as we age the deficiency of magnesium in the body also increases. In recent study, that was conducted in animals that were deprived of the correct amount of magnesium have shown signs of premature aging. Apart from that lower levels of magnesium in the body can lead to clogged arteries, heart attacks, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Magnesium in the body not only regulates the heart beat but also helps in determining the chances of survival in case of a stroke. One can say that the more the magnesium content in the body the more are the chances of survival. People who intake large amount of magnesium are less prone to stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

Nuts are rich source of magnesium. By simply having nuts five times a week one can easily reduce the chances of heart attack to half. Therefore consuming 8-10 almonds everyday is recommended to keep cardiovascular diseases at bay. This is because magnesium prevents any blood clot formation. It also inhibits the release of thromboxane; it is a substance that makes blood platelets stickier and clots the blood.

The free radical damage to the mitochondra is also arrested. Damaged mitochondra is not able to create energy and is the main cause of aging. Diabetes also results on account of reduced magnesium levels in the body. Magnesium works together with calcium and vitamin D and prevents the degeneration of the bones. A body needs approximately 400 mg of magnesium daily for overall fitness.

Thus one should concentrate more on food that is rich in magnesium like pumpkin, nut seeds, legumes, all nuts, leafy vegetables, cereals and grains. Consume all these in appropriate quantities and keep the heart healthy.
