Leaking Gut Syndrome

A very common problem in present time is a leaky gut syndrome. Leaky Gut Syndrome or increased intestinal permeability plays a major role in a number of allergic and autoimmune diseases. It is a condition in which our gut becomes very porous and allows large food particles to be absorbed straight in the blood.

The lining of the intestines is replaced every 24 hours. In other words, the cells of the lining grow and take place of the new ones within 24 hours. But to perform this task the body needs a lot of rest and blood. Lack of this can cause impaired lining. Another reason for this problem is- Candida, a fungal organism. It grows like roots of a plant looking for food and in process breaking intestinal lining.

When the gut is inflamed you feel bloated and tired as your body is not able to absorb nutrients properly. It causes other problems like allergies, constipation, abdominal pain, mood swings, shortness of breath, gas, nervousness, poor memory, heart burn etc. You will be surprised to know that this leaky gut syndrome can lead to so many other diseases like chronicle fatigue disorder, Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple scerosis, Crohn’s disease etc. Most of the times if you improve your gut these diseases will also go.

In case you have the symptoms of leaky gut syndrome your doctor will give you a urine test. It is a simple lab test; a solution of two non metobilizable sugars is consumed. One of these sugars is not absorbed by the intestinal mucosa, the other is absorbed. After a few hours of consumption the sample of urine is taken and analyzed. If the non absorbed sugar is found at high concentration in the urine, this indicates leaky gas syndrome.

Try eating fermented food as they are enzyme rich and aid digestion, offer us better nutrients and allow our bodies to absorb vitamins. Some of these foods are cheese, vinegar, yogurt, bread, chocolate, coffee, cultured veggies, pickles, wine, beer, sore dough breads etc.
