Left Side Abdominal Pain

One of the most common complaints in a doctor’s clinic is the abdominal pain. Most people hold their stomach responsible for their abdominal pain, but it can also be caused due to any organ in your middle part such as kidneys, appendix, pancreas, intestines and gallbladder.

Pain in abdomen can be a minor problem but in few cases it can also be a symptom of severe diseases and may need immediate medical attention. Hence, you must report to your doctor if you often experience abdominal pain to rule out the possibilities of other health problems.

Left side abdominal pain is more commonly experienced by women and young adults. Due to the vigorous spasm, left side abdominal pain can result in severe pain and can give you a hard time. It can be caused by any disease procedure that affects structures or organs on the left side of your stomach. But distant body structures or pain spreading from the other parts of the abdomen can also lead to left side abdominal pain.

The common causes of left side abdominal pain are kidney infections, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, kidney stone, constipation, and pain arising from the left side of the stomach. In few cases, people with abdominal pain over their naval can experience vomiting and nausea. It can also be accompanied by weakness and fever. The left side abdominal pain may also cause stomach cramps, constipation and diarrhea. If you observe these signs, you should immediately see a doctor and get treated.

The common symptoms of left side abdominal pain in an individual are heartburn, gas, indigestion, and dark stools. Some other symptoms are skin rashes, weight loss, pain in the joints and fatigue. Women afflicted with left side abdominal pain may suffer from perforated stomach ulcer, pelvic inflammation, diabetic exacerbation and heart attack. Left side abdominal pain in women can also cause sudden discharge, fever and swelling from the pelvic region.

Skin of people affected with left side abdominal pain can turn yellow in color. And in case of chronic left or right side abdominal pain, eyes and urine also becomes yellow colored. This is considered as a severe effect of left side abdominal pain.

Left side abdominal pain usually goes off naturally after its emergence. But in some cases, it may become worse. Hence, you must not ignore it and should consult a doctor immediately.
