Male Infertility Treatment
Infertility is not a problem of only women. Millions of men too suffer from infertility. If you have infertility problems, do not get depressed. There are different types of male infertility treatments available these days.
Treatment of male infertility is divided into three categories: 1) Assisted Reproduction, 2) Drug Therapy and 3) surgery. In Assisted Reproduction Therapy, erectile dysfunction problem is treated. This therapy implements methods through which sperm is obtained, ejaculation is induced and insemination of an egg is made.
Assisted Reproduction is again divided into four categories: 1) Electroejaculation, 2) Sperm retrieval and washing, 3) In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), 4) Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and 5) Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT).
In electroejaculation, a current is generated through an electrical rectal probe so that nerves can be stimulated and ejaculation of sperm can be induced. Men who lose fertility due to spinal injury or orchiectomy are treated with this procedure.
In sperm retrieval procedure, an injection is penetrated into the scrotum and epididymis and the doctor draws sperm into the syringe. This technique is applied on patients, whose sperm paired get impaired due to any reasons.
In the procedure of sperm washing, sperms are isolated and the healthiest sperm are prepared for insemination. To make sperm healthier, white blood cells and prostaglandins are separated from the semen so that they don’t hinder sperm motility.
In the procedure of IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) eggs are combined with the sperm in a lab and kept under proper fertilization conditions from where embryos are transferred to the uterus.
During the procedure of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), one sperm is directly planted through injection into a retrieved egg which is mature. Thereafter, the egg is nurtured and finally it is transferred to woman’s uterus. In this process, fertilization rate is 50% to 80%. This procedure was performed in 1992 for the first time.
Couples who face infertility problems due to unknown reasons go through gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) procedure as infertility treatment. In this process, sperm, which is prepared, are combined with mature eggs in a syringe and thereafter, by the use of laparoscopy, the preparation is injected into the fallopian tube. In 30% cases, women get pregnant successfully.
Men who suffer from sperm abnormalities are also given citrate (tablets) so that their semen could improve. In most cases, Clomid have successfully improved men’s sperm count.
