Miscarriage
Miscarriage is the natural or spontaneous end of a pregnancy at a stage where the embryo or fetus is incapable of surviving. A miscarriage is one of the most traumatic physical and emotional conditions a woman goes through. There are several reasons that could lead to a miscarriage.
Diabetes:
Diabetes in a woman can lead to a miscarriage. To prevent this disaster doctors generally prescribe insulin and make a woman maintain a normal level of blood sugar in her body through out her pregnancy. In extreme circumstances, if blood sugar is not controlled well, it could lead to the death of the baby and the mother both.
Age:
It has been found that women older than age 35 have a higher risk of miscarriage than younger women. Father’s age also may play a critical role. In fact a study has proved that women whose partners are older than 40 have a bigger risk of a miscarriage than women whose partners are younger than age 26.
Smoking, alcohol and drugs:
Women who smoke or drink during pregnancy are at a very high risk of a miscarriage. Even if a woman is a passive smoker, it could lead to this condition. Intake of illicit drugs can also result in a still born or spontaneous abortion.
History of miscarriages:
If a woman has had more than one miscarriage before she is at a very high risk of having one again. For women who have had one miscarriage; the risk of it happening is the same as that of a woman who’s never had a miscarriage.
Abnormalities in a baby:
Due to certain fault, If the chromosomes of the developing baby are incompatible with life, then that could lead to a miscarriage. This reason is usually found in mothers who have a miscarriage during the first trimester.
