Myth About Diabetes

Diabetes is one of the most fast spreading aliments. The disease has so become common that one out of four suffer from it. But the misconceptions that are associated with it cannot be overlooked. Here are discussed some of the myths and facts about this conditions.

Myth 1- once a person starts taking diabetic pills or insulin especially for type II condition one cannot get over it.

Fact- it sometimes happens that due to circumstances and other factors, the sugar level gets elevated. With due course of time, with emphasis on balanced diet along with exercise and pledging over stress, people who had started with pills or insulin to control diabetes can control the blood sugar level, without medication in the longer run.

Myth 2- consumption of sugar can lead to diabetes.

Fact- diabetes is actually a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The myth with the sugar can be due to obesity and sugar levels.

Myth 3- people with diabetes should concentrate only with special diabetic food.

Fact- most of us believe that diabetic, should consume sugar free or especially diabetic food. But the IDF says that a healthy and well balanced diet for the diabetic is similar to the people who do not have diabetes.

Myth 4- diabetic medicines are only for serious conditions.

Fact- all people who are diabetic may not need the medicines. If the body is capable of producing sufficient insulin and healthy eating habits with regular exercise can help the insulin to work in a more effective manner. But care should be taken that diabetes changes over time.

Myth 5- insulin can lead to weight gain.

Fact- studies have shown that management of glucose with insulin outweighs the risks of weight gain.

Myth 6- I do have diabetes but I am not sure with the symptoms.

Fact- type I diabetes is common among kids and teenagers. They will have little or no insulin, as the hormones will control the blood glucose levels. Type II diabetes occurs mostly in later life. Pregnant women can have special diabetes can have few or no symptoms. Only with blood test one can get a clear picture about the condition.
