Contaminated food or water causes food poisoning. Food poisoning can cause improper digestion, nausea, vomiting, dehydration and fever. However, symptoms may be even severe if it is not taken care of in the initial stages. We have compiled some of the remedial measures of food poisoning.

These measures will lighten the symptoms and also pave the way to a healthy and fast recovery. Read on to discover more.

Increase your fluid intake: If you are affected with food poisoning, make sure to drink as much fluid as possible. A minimum of 10 glasses of water should be consumed by the patient. Along with this, fresh fruit juice like apple juice, mixed juice or lemon water should be consumed. To reduce nausea which is often triggered by indigestion and fluctuations in temperature, bread slices can be eaten. Maintain a steady room temperature as well.

Food poisoning is often coupled with vomiting. Vomiting, sometimes, throws out some important electrolytes of the body such as, glucose, sodium and potassium. To fill in these lost electrolytes, one can opt for a drink of any fruit juice and corn syrup or honey with a pinch of common salt. Salt is a good replacement of potassium and the mixture of corn syrup and honey is a good alternative to glucose. Make sure to only drink mineral water.

The most significant and effective remedy for food poisoning is bed rest. One shouldn’t stress himself as that would amount to further nausea and tiredness. This will also affect fast recovery. The antibodies fight against the bacteria and that amounts for a lot of energy. Do not have too much of solid food as they are difficult to digest. Stick to liquid and fruits.

Have pain killers for stomach ache (only if severe) as prescribed by the doctor. Herbal tea or warm water with lemon juice is also very effective. Chew a mint leaf or chewing gum to make your mouth fresh.

Complete rest along with these few remedial measures will help you fight food poisoning. But prevention is better than cure, so keep away from unhygienic food and contaminated water.
