Organizing a Family Get-Together
An unorganized get-together can ruin the whole mood. Instead of giving pleasure it can leave you with frustration and disappointment. Organizing a party is a big job. It is not just about food and decoration but a lot other things are to be considered like- keeping the kids busy, handling the family feuds with diplomacy or ice for the drinks etc, to make a party a hit, and on top of everything you need to look charming and cheerful.
I know it is tough and doing it is not an easy thing but when you see the bonding and strengthening of ties between your kids and family you want to go through the ordeal again. Here are some tips to help you in making it a pleasure form pain.
Plan your get together in advance. You need to know the number of guests, the menu, seating arrangement, special care for kids and elderly, music and decoration. First you need to know the number of guests and their likes and dislikes. Once you have the numbers and their preferences it becomes easy to plan the menu.
Deciding the menu is another very important part of the gathering. Food and drinks should be such that they should fulfill everybody’s need. For example- you need to have vegetarian and non vegetarian food, spicy and less spicy, snacks for drinkers and mocktails for non drinkers. Always make extra food so that you don’t get stressed out if there are extra guests or somebody takes extra helping.
You need to reduce your strain by delegating work and concentrating more on ‘help yourself’ arrangements. People should be able to help themselves for ice, snacks, water, tissues, plates etc. Avoid food that need elaborate serving technique. It is always good to use disposable crockery, cutlery and napkins etc. This will save you from a lot of work later on. Keep your china for small gatherings. Don’t overstrain yourself, do what you can handle and enjoy the party.
