Painful Periods – How To Deal With It
The end of the monthly cycle that the body of a woman goes through in case if there is no conception is commonly referred to as Periods or Menstruation. This periods enables the removal of the lining of the uterus for that cycle while, beginning the lining for the next.
Most women experience certain symptoms prior to the occurrence of the periods. This is known as Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).
PMS is the term given for the physical and emotional symptoms experienced by a woman such as fatigue, headache, bloating, mood swings, cramps etc. and all of these problems occur with every period whether late, early, heavy or scanty. Painful Period is one such problem which is a result of cramps experienced. This accompanied with any other PMS may cause a disruption in the daily routine of a woman.
Painful periods are also known as ‘dysmenorrhea’. Primary dysmenorrhea is experienced by woman whose periods have just begun. In such cases the periods may become less severe by your mid 20’s or after pregnancy. Many women opt for a pain reliever or other medicines in such cases. Secondary dysmenorrhea is a more severe one caused by endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroid tumors etc. This would require you to visit your doctor.
For Primary dysmenorrhea having a pill once in a while would be fine but consuming it every month would do you more harm. Hence, it would be better to wade your way through it. But in case if your periods get way too painful maybe you could try some of the following ways to deal with it. First of all a nice bath with hot water may help. You could even try some heat pad treatments. A massage with essential oils may also benefit you. Bear in mind that these measures can only provide you with relief for some time or reduce your pain for the time being.
Remember that stress is one of the factors that may make your painful periods even more painful. De-stress yourself with meditation, yoga and some exercises. Your diet too plays an important role. Deficiency in some nutrients may cause it to ache more. Exercise regularly. Lastly, avoid smoking and drinking – they too may aggravate your condition.
