Possible Complications Of Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation helps women to enhance their breasts. Several women who are desirous to get beautiful and bigger breasts opt for the technique of breast augmentation surgery to increase the size and change the shape of their breasts.
Well, it is true that breast augmentation is like a boon for the women with smaller or sagging breasts but before you decide to take the breast augmentation surgery you should be aware of the possible complications linked to it. The possible complications of breasts augmentation are discussed below in brief.
Infections – Infection associated to surgery takes place 1 to 6 weeks post surgery. Commonly it occurs at the site of surgical incision or in the neighboring tissues of the implant. Symptoms of infection include fever, inflammation, redness at the incision site, and tenderness. Infections after breast augmentation surgery can be avoided by taking proper care until complete healing has taken place. Most of these infections can be treated by the use of antibiotics. In severe case of infections, Toxic Shock Syndrome (T.S.S.) can be caused.
Capsular Contractions – When a foreign object is introduced in the body, it naturally leads to capsular contractions. Scar tissues are formed around the implant and give rise to a capsule. As a result of severe contraction of the capsule the implant can get compressed and cause capsular contraction. In extreme cases, the breast shape may become distorted. This condition may cause severe pain. Treatment includes removal of the scar tissue by surgery.
Ruptured Implant – Ruptured implant is considered as one of the most severe complications related to breast augmentation surgery. As the name suggests ruptured breast implants may burst and seep out into the body. If the ruptured breast implants were filled with saline it will deflate easily causing the breasts to shrink. Factors which can increase the risk of ruptured breast implants include: serious capsular contracture, undue handling during surgery, wear and tear due to aging, damage caused by surgical instruments, etc.
Hematoma – When blood collects within tissues or a cavity or an organ of the body, it gives rise to swelling called hematoma. It usually occurs immediately after surgery but can also occur afterward. Hematoma that takes place immediately after surgery can increase the risk of infection and capsular contracture.
Rippling, breast pain, nipple numbness and breast sensation changes are other possible complications of breast augmentation.
