Preparations Before Getting Pregnant

Before getting pregnant go for a health check up. When you get sure that your health is in good condition, you should proceed further to get pregnant. Some test such as HIV should be done as preventive measures. You must visit your dentist for check up of your teeth and gums. Though it doesn’t seem directly related to pregnancy, it indirectly affects a lot on your pregnancy. If you have any teeth problem or gum disease, it may cause miscarriage or preterm birth.

You need to stop taking contraceptives (birth control pills) a few months before you want to conceive. After leaving your pills, you should watch your ovulation days so that you surely get into intercourse on those days for successful pregnancy.

If you exercise regularly, it’s good. But if you don’t, start exercising daily to prevent any delivery complications. Exercise also improves your blood circulation and keeps you healthy.

If you smoke, quit it immediately because smoking will harm your child too much. Your baby will be born with many health defects. Smoking, alcohol and too much caffeine also cause miscarriage. Hence you must avoid these three things. You should not stay around people who smoke because due to secondhand smoking, you are again affected.

There are some vitamins and minerals which should be surely taken during and before pregnancy. Folic acid, Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin C should be taken in good quantity. You should consult your doctor regarding vitamins to be taken.

Be prepared with your health insurance. Sometimes, due to misunderstanding, you may not get insurance benefits. Make sure you get its benefits. Also keep in mind which doctor or which hospital you have to visit and get admitted for delivery. If you are in rented flat or bungalow, make sure that you don’t have to shift to another house during the pregnancy period.

Make sure that the job you do is suitable for your child. If your job is going to harm your baby even a bit it is better to switch over to some other job or take a long leave from the present job. Above all, you have to make sure that your husband’s health is in good condition. Ensure that he too exercises. You both should keep yourself happy and may visit movies, restaurants occasionally for refreshment.
