Prevention of MRSA

Hospitals and other health centers are trying to cope up with the increased case of MRSA in recent years. They are making use of surveillance systems that tracks the bacteria out breaks and by checking on products like catheters and gloves that readily release disinfectants.

Avoid sharing equipments, razors, sheets, towels etc. MRSA spread rapidly by contact. See that you carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you, which has 60% of alcohol.

The cuts, wounds and abrasions should be kept covered. Keep the wounded area clean. While dressing, use sterile bandages. Remember the pus that comes out from sores may have MRSA, by keeping the wounds covered you may prevent the bacteria from spreading. Take shower after game practice or athletic meet. Even the health providers should take shower once they reach back home.

In case if you have wound or abrasion that drains and appears infected then it is better to stay out of athletic practice. See that you only join the practice till the wound has healed and dried completely.

In case you have developed the sore see that you sanitize the linen, towels and other clothing in hot water and add bleach. Do not wear the same clothes after gym or athletic practice. Get tested in case of infections and properly follow the prescribed medicines.
