Prevention Of Tooth Decay

Tooth decay happens when the teeth are recurrently exposed to various kinds of eatables and food and not cleaned properly. Food that has high content of carbohydrates, starch and sugar can result in tooth decay. Confectionaries, candies, chocolates and fruits that are sticky can cause decay. Decay in tooth causes cavities. These cavities are nothing but bacterial infection that is due to a specific kind of bacteria.

The entire plaque gets covered by the bacteria and can form more than 500 matters in the mouth itself. One of the main and common stuff is the formation of acid. When plaque gets combined with food and settles on the teeth then acid gets released. This acid is extremely influential and can slowly dissolve the calcium of the teeth. Then the enamel which is the tooth’s surface gets destroyed.

This enamel itself has almost 97% of calcium. There are other substances that can result in diseases of gums and bad breath, these can also cause tooth decay. The main bacterium that results in tooth decay is known as streptococcus mutans. The acidic plaque rests in the tooth and the acid gets dissolved from the tooth surface. A cavity gets formed when this calcium surface breaks and a hole is formed in it. Once the enamel collapses creating a hole which cannot be repaired.

Here are some tips suggested to avoid decay in teeth:-
Brush the teeth twice daily. Always rinse the mouth after every meal. Brushing and flossing is important so that acid formation doesn’t take place. For almost 180 minutes of acid production the teeth, one should consume 3 cups of tea/coffee/soda pops. If one binges on snacks and food and drinks that have high content of sugar and acid, then it will eat away the bacteria of the mouth. Apart from this smoking can spoil the teeth.
