Raising A New Born Baby
Raising a new born is a challenging job. Looking after it needs a lot of patience and energy. Hence, before leaving the hospital parents and other care givers need to be educated on how to take care of an infant.
Few things which need to be taken care of are feeding, sleeping, dressing up the baby, exercise, and the like. Remember, the first few months are very crucial in a baby’s life, as it depends totally on you for all its needs.
First thing parents need to know is that baby talks only through crying. Usually babies cry when they are wet, sleepy, hungry, need to be held or are too hot or too cold. Remember its common for a baby to cry or make fuss. With time you will learn to calm the infant, but if nothing seems to help then check with your doctor.
Breast milk is recommended for first few months. The baby needs to be fed 8 to 12 times in a day. It can be increased if required. It’s important for the baby to get proper nourishment. Remember, if the infant sleeps well, is alert when awake, is gaining weight and has regular bowel movements, then that shows that the baby is getting enough to eat. New born should not go without feed for more than three and a half to four hours. Try nursing 10 to 15 minutes on each breast.
The sleep pattern is very different of a new born than an older baby. In early months the baby sleeps most of the time. When putting the baby to rest; it is advised to put it on its back.
It is difficult for a baby to regulate its body temperature. Hence, you need to be careful while dressing the infant. For some mothers bath-time can be very hard. Remember, the temperature of the water has to be perfect and you have to be careful about drying the umbilical cord to avoid infection. Keep away from using too much of lotion and powder. Apart from this, another thing which needs to be observed is never leaving the child unattended, not even for a few minutes.
Looking after the baby is draining both emotionally as well as physically for a mother. So take as much help as you can from your family and friends.
