Reasons Why People Get Into Depression

Our lifestyle has made depression a house hold disorder. There is no person on the face of this earth who has not faced some form of depression in his lifetime. Though seemingly innocent, but depression leads to many physical and other mental aliments. Here are some major reasons for depression:

One of the major reasons for depression is living in a social environment that does not suit us. I can explain this with the help of an example. Suppose you bring a polar bear to a place which has a very hot climate. What do you think will happen to the bear? It certainly will suffer and will find it extremely hard to survive. Similarly, all human beings have a comfort zone and an environment which fulfills there physical and emotional needs. If they are put into an environment which does not let them meet there needs, then they will suffer and get into a depression. Such hostile environments can include- a job which you hate, unhealthy office environment, family problems or a hostile atmosphere at home.

People who are negative and think way too much are also prone to depression. These people tend to misuse there imagination and always think about the ‘worst that could happen’ in a situation. They make up negative stories, increasing there level of tension and stress. This attitude leads to depression.

Depression can also be genetic. It can pass on from the parent to a child. Moreover, a person can also incur depression through his past experience such as learned belief of the world shaped in childhood. When a child grows up in a home where two or one of the two parents has a problem of depression then he is likely to have this problem himself.

Moreover, victims of traumatic situations more often than not get into depression. Also, people who suffer from major disorders such as—Autism, chromosomal disorders, developmental disorders etc are likely to suffer from depression as daily living becomes an ordeal for them and they are almost totally dependant on others for everything.
