Risk Factors of Breast Cancer
The breast cancer can occur due to many reasons here are the factors discussed:-
Age- with age the chances of cancer breast increases and gets doubled for every 10 yrs. With menopause the chances also reduces. Quarter of cases observed is below women of 50.
Geographical variation- statistics show variation in incidence and death rate among different countries. The Africans and the Europeans have more chances of developing cases than Asian women.
Reproductive factors- females who menstruate early or enter late menopause have more chances of breast cancer.
Age at 1st pregnancy- infertile women or females who bear children at older ages for 1st time have more chances of cancer. Statistics show that women who have child after 30 have double chances than women who have kids in 20’s. The highest effect is among women who have kids after 35. The menstrual cycle effect is indicated. It has been observed that during cycles the hormonal levels fluctuates and the breast tissues also changes. The changes can increase the abnormal functions of cells and can later develop into breast cancer.
Inherited risk- approximately 10% cases are inherited. It is passed from parent of family members. The two genes found responsible for this are BRCA1 and BRCA2.
Previous Breast condition- females with certain benign are more vulnerable to cancer. The females can show development of breast lump and the removed tissues may further grow in the lining of the lobule. This breast condition is technically called as “severe atypical epithelial hyperplasia”. The chances of cancer due to this cannot be overlooked.
Lifestyle- the food and other diet factors of a country is responsible for breast cancer. Dietary fat intake of country is closely correlated with breast cancer incidence.
Radiation- females exposed to radiations in form of x-rays, Hodgkin’s disease etc have more chances of developing breast cancer.
Weight and alcohol intake- both the factors attribute to increase in cancer cases.
Hormones and hormone replacement therapy- females who take oral contraceptive have chances of developing cancer. Women who take pills at early age have higher risk than older women. The HRT is also responsible for some cases.
