Salary Negotiations and Interviews

The recession has hit the economies brutally and consumed immense job prospects. People are seeking suitable jobs to meet their ends need. The majority is suffering terribly with this recession factor and desperately looking for their share and chances.

And it might take around a year for the normalcy to be restored in the job sector globally. These are all current conditions the job-seekers are getting to face. But certainly the prospects are not that much bleak for those with the required skills and experience. And these individuals are sailing easily despite the bad market conditions around.

Either they have got that skills or might have presented their case in the best possible ways to get into their respective jobs. It’s the time to have calm and approach interviews with a clear-cut and precise strategy. Every round in interviews is hard to cross, and the hardest one is surely the negotiation round.

What if all hurdles are crossed except the final one? And that would hurt no end if you could not get the job only due to not negotiating aptly. Thus, be ready to face a stiff challenge in the form of a negotiation round that would test your mettle enormously and might make or break the career.

The moot point would be to negotiate properly after thoroughly analyzing the  salary limits and the self skills and experience. You’re surely not going to be paid almost what it would have been once there in not the recession. Thus, plan things accordingly to handle the negotiation round with aplomb.

Once the question comes about your expectations, the reply would surely be apt and relevant to leave the interviewer with some thoughts. There are no any limits, but surely the hiring employers would pay you anything around 20 to 30% more than the previous jobs. And expecting more than that in these tough times might not be a feasible option.

Thus, have a clear-cut range in the mind that should be around 30-35% more of your current salary. And that’s what might well be termed as a reasonable asking price for any interviews. Don’t go up more than this if you harbor any plan to get into the job. But then, once you have the mettle, and more importantly, the skills to support you cause, then go and set your own limit without caring for anything else.
