Massage therapy is most common and effective way of treating and preventing pain. It encourages healing by promoting the blood circulation. You can achieve good health and over all well being through this method. Although the benefits of touch are getting popular, but many people still do not want to engage in it due to shyness or expenses, but you can do it yourself.

To start with, you need to know your body and your trigger points that are causing pain. Trigger points always cause pain to other locations like head ache, back pain, body ache or feeling of hot and cold. You can even ask a professional to make a body chart for you; he can show you where certain trigger points are and how to work on them to relieve pain.

There is no need to over do it or use too much pressure while massaging. Pressing too hard can sometimes be harmful. You need to apply pressure for a minute or so with your thumb or finger to the area which is tender then release and repeat. It distracts your nervous system momentarily from the distressed area helping it to heal. You need to massage the tender area regularly for few days.

The increase of blood flow helps body to heal itself. Studies show that massage stimulates the body to release pain killers which help patients suffering from cancer, aids, labor pain diabetes and insomnia.

You can do it with or without oil. But a warm and herbal oil massage can do wonders for your body. You can energize yourself in the morning and unwind yourself in the evening.

Remember a massage is a great way to unwind, it acts as a muscle relaxant. Moreover, it also removes all the dead skin, leaving a glow. However overdoing it can cause problems.
