Breast Cancer is a dangerous cancer disease amongst females. It also affects the mental level of a female very badly. It is a disease which most females have fear of. If there is history of Breast Cancer in the family, the fear and anxiety increases even more.

Examine the breast regularly, monthly self examinations on the same date helps. Observe if there is any change in size and shape of the breast. Increase or decrease in size of one of the breast is an indication of formation of mass in breast. Check the skin texture and color. Is it different from the last time you examined? Any change in color of the skin over breast, which remains for a long period is one of the signs of Breast Cancer. Check for puckered or dimpled skin over the breast.

Check if you find any change in the direction of the nipple of breast. Any underlying mass can pull the skin and the direction of the nipple can change. Press the nipple gently but firmly to see if any discharge oozes out. Bloody discharge is an important sign of Breast Cancer. Any swelling, inflammation, tenderness over any part of the breast should be noted and it requires immediate attention.

Both breasts should be self examined every month by pressing gently to see if there is any lump or mass formation in the breast tissue. Lump is most of the times the only sign of Breast Cancer. While examining the breast area, the axillary region should also be examined. If the Cancer has spread to axillary lymph-nodes, swelling and nodes can be found even in the axilla.

If you find any of the above signs, you don’t need to panic. Any infection or inflammation of the breast can also give rise to such symptoms. But you should become alert and make immediate visit to your physician so that he/she can diagnose the condition and can start with medical treatment right away.
