Single Child Parenting
Has single child become a lifestyle or a need? The argument continues. It may be just a passing trend. A number of couples are opting to have only one child in their life and that too in their late 30’s. They seem to be not willing to go through the experience again. It could be due to recession or is it the time factor that is pushing more and more couples not to have more kids. Most of the couples believe in one child concept, they are more than happy with their one son or daughter. They do not even shy from telling that they are not looking for another kid.
Even experts point out that modern day couples generally plan their kids in their 30’s and they are hesitant to go through the entire process again. One of the reasons, that the process of parenting has become more challenging now days. So usually they stop at one child. The 30’s is the new 20’s of today, but this may not be applicable to the biological clock. So it is quite natural when the couples have their kids at 35+ something and choose to get on with their life.
Today’s parents are not only competitive for their child but the child also finds the mounting pressure of sports, education and other extra curricular activities. Most of us are facing mammoth problems in the form of infrastructure, over flowing population and recession; thus it makes a sensitive way to live life. But that doesn’t mean that you make generalizations.
Every couple has to think and needs to decide for themselves, what is feasible for them? Based of numerous factors like time for each other, sharing of responsibilities, career and support from relatives one has to decide about their child. Parenting has become a challenging task. The change in values with focuses on individual priority and needs over family nurturance, is taking over. Quality over quantity may be holding true when it comes to kids now-a-days.
