Some Common Addictions
People suffer from all kinds of addictions, some are chemical dependent like drugs, alcohol, smoking etc and others are related to compulsive behavior such as shopping, fitness, flirting etc. One thing must be realized that an addiction is a disorder. It cannot be cured but with treatment and counseling an addict can learn to control it.
Porn Addiction:
Once in a while everybody enjoys watching porn movies and magazines but when you spend the whole day fantasizing sex and seek ways of obtaining it then you are addicted to porn. You are so occupied by these thoughts that your life starts suffering and you become aloof in your personal and professional life. Earlier, porn addiction was thought to be a male problem but recently it has been seen in women too. No one can change you except for you yourself but nonetheless it becomes easier and more effective when you have help. Take professional treatment or rehab to overcome this addiction.
Eating addiction:
Food addiction is like any other addiction. The three main eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and compulsive overeating. A person with this disorder restricts there calorie intake either severely or embarks on uncontrollable binges. An eating disorder is usually from early childhood and needs a lot of time and effort to overcome it. Dealing with food addiction can be a difficult task as one cannot be abstinent from food. Some therapies which are helpful are—psycho therapy, behavior therapy, group therapy and medication.
Drug addiction:
Drug addiction is when a person craves, seeks and uses drugs even in the face of severe, adverse consequences. Using drugs has a profound impact on how we think, feel and act. People who are suffering emotionally or want to escape from there problems take drugs. Recovery is possible with the right medical help and social support. There is no magic pill that will cure drug dependency but learning new ways of coping and having a strong support system can make all the difference. A drug addict also needs a long term follow up as chances of relapse are higher.
Living with an addiction requires daily commitment as there is always a possibility of relapsing.
