Some Common Killer Cancers

Your lifestyle has a lot of impact on your health. There are certain habits that can lead to cancer. Here is a guide to help you avoid it. Remember, a little care is all that is required to lower the risk of cancer.

Colon cancer:
If your diet is rich in fat and low in fiber or you have a previous history of inflammatory bowl disease or have a family history of colon cancer you are in the high risk zone. Make sure you eat more whole grains, lentils, sprouts, green leafy veggies and citrus fruits. The fiber you get from these foods helps to remove toxins from the body before they do any damage.

Lung cancer:
You are in the danger zone if you smoke or are a passive smoker. The more cigarettes you smoke or the younger the age you started at, the risk becomes higher. If you work with asbestos, radiation, arsenic, smoke or even colorless and odorless gas you are prone to get lung cancer. Stop smoking, this is very important. Within few years your health will be just like any other non smoker but if you are at risk get you x-ray done every year.

Breast cancer:
If you have a history of breast cancer on either side of your family or you are childless or gave birth after 30, menstruated after 12, menopause after 55, are overweight, carry BCRA-1 and BCRA-2 genes then make sure you go for breast examination regularly. Have a mammography done frequently after 50, exercise and take balanced diet to keep your weight and estrogen level under control.

Stomach cancer:
You are in danger zone if you take diet which is rich in carbohydrates and do not eat any fruits and veggies. Eating too much smoked and preserved foods also causes stomach cancer. Ulcer caused due to any reason can also become cancerous. Try eating fiber rich food; eat less fats and tined foods.

Oral cancer:
It happens on the lower lip, jaw bone, tongue and lining of the mouth. You are in a danger zone if you are a chain smoker or chew tobacco or if you drink more than six pegs daily or you have sores in mouth due to sharp edges of teeth dentures, fillings etc. To avoid this visit your dentist regularly, limit your intake of tobacco, smoking and alcohol, have a nutritious diet full of anti oxidants. Intake of vitamin A and E helps a lot.
