Some Myths About Pregnancy
With pregnancy also comes a bunch of advices from families and friends. Your relatives and other family members must be telling you about some do’s and don’ts that has to be practiced during pregnancy. But it’s better to know the truth than following them.
Here are discussed some myths about pregnancy:-
Myth 1-consumption of crabs during pregnancy will make the child hyperactive.
Fact- the fact is even science claims that there is no relation to this taboo and association of crab consumption with child being hyperactive. Pregnant mothers should follow healthy balanced diet. The food should have all the essential vital nutrients and vitamins in balanced way. They food should also be organically grown and should be free from preservatives and addictives.
Myth 2- the baby may have birth marks if painting is done by pregnant mother.
Fact- the fact is birthmarks in babies are due to pigmentation. Another reason could be the anomalous collection of certain blood vessels in that area. Some may disappear with time while others remain on the body.
Myth 3- cutting the cloth may cause the baby to have palate or cleft lip.
Fact- both these conditions are congenital defect. It could be due to hereditary. And if the members of the family suffer from this condition then there may be chances that the baby also has this condition.
Myth 4- consumption of twin banana can cause Siamese twins.
Fact- Siamese twins are twins whose part of the body is joined. This happens when the embryo develops. In most of the twin development the embryo should get separated within 15 days of conception. In most of the Siamese twins this happens later and thus the embryo is not fully separated.
Myth 5- consumption of cool food like pineapple, green bananas and grass jelly can cause miscarriage.
Fact- there is no certain evidence that tells that such food can lead to miscarriages. Most of the miscarriages happens during the first trimester. This could be due to abnormality in the fetus, infection or either because of diabetes.
Hence a pregnant mother should always consume a well balanced diet. Apart from this folic acid, vitamin C, iron and calcium are also recommended.
Myth 6- sewing during pregnancy can cause the baby to have closed anus.
Fact-imperforated anus or closed anus is congenital defect. It can also be associated with other abnormality in urinary and chromosomal anomaly. This could be surgically treated.
