The Origins of Day Spas
Although a day spa is relatively a new-world concept, hydrotherapy or the healing with water, from which the concept of spas was drawn from, has been around for centuries. Hydrotherapy has been proven to be very effective at soothing away stress and rejuvenating the mind and body. The Greeks, the Romans and the Egyptians have been practicing hydrotherapy for many generations. The ancient Romans were known to bathe in hot wells and springs to relieve their aching bodies while the Greeks have their hot baths.
As early as 200 B.C., hydrotherapy has been used by people to treat arthritis, joint pains and rheumatism and other chronic orthopedic as well as nervous diseases. Aside from soothing body aches, people in the ancient times also use hydrotherapy as a form of beauty treatment. They use hydrotherapy to rejuvenate their skin. Even the Turkish people had a spa treatment policy where they could relax in hot pools of heated water!
As the years passed, the use of hydrotherapy evolved. People from all over the world started to improvise on the use of warm water for healing both the mind and the body. Day spas which offer sauna, massage, reflexology and aromatherapy sprouted in the many parts of the United States. Most of these day spas offer cool and soothing ambiance. People who want to relax and wind down after a stressful day at work often find these places very appealing. Most people who frequent the spa swears that spending a few hours in the day spa helped rejuvenate them both mentally and physically.
