It was observed that, patients who suffered from mild hypertension were able to bring down the blood pressure to normal level, by listening to music in classical, Celtic or raga form, for at least half an hour every day. The practice should be continued for four weeks and considerable changes were noted in ambulatory blood pressure (ABP).

Hypertension has become a common phenomenon; it is a disorder in which the blood pressure remains high. Statistics reveal that almost 5 million of untimely death occurs on account of this disorder. Music is a healer. In other studies, it has been observed that music has the capacity to heal and alleviate pain, anxiety and other mental disorders. Soothing music works miraculously on hypertension patients.

The results obtained clearly showed the impact of music on ABP. This research has given a new dimension for treatment as patients as well as physicians can make most of this newly found means, in the best of their capacity. Music is not only safe, but also effective method, for non-pharmacological treatment alternative. It is being looked as a complementary treatment by most of the physician.

In the study, the patients were asked to wear a device that kept a note of blood pressure for 24 hrs. Next they were made to listen, classical, Celtic or Indian music. The music of theses forms were slow paced. The patients were consigned to listen to the music for at least 30 minutes per day, simultaneously practicing slow breathing pattern. This was followed for a month and the blood pressure was monitored again in the evening. The readings clearly suggest the drastic fall of blood pressure to the normal level.
