Sunburn

Sunburn is a skin condition. In this the skin becomes red and blotchy. When the skin surface gets damaged with the harmful effects of the UV rays, then sunburn happens. This sunburn can be mild to severe, depending on the skin type and the exposure to the sun. The intensity of the sunrays cannot be overlooked. Sometimes the conditions can be life threatening, if the problem occurs regularly. It is the major cause of skin cancer and aging.

The sunburn can be divided on the intensity of the damaged done to the skin. They can be either first degree burn or second degree burn or can be third degree burn. The first degree makes the skin red with pain while in the 2nd case water bubbles also erupt with pain and redness. In the 3rd case white patches also develops on the skin.

Prevention
Experts say that one should use a sun block or sun screen lotion while going out. This should be applied 20 min prior to stepping out. It should have the required SPF level. The higher the SPF the more effective is the layer and longer the stay in the skin.

In case sunburn occurs, and then it could be due to staying longer than 4 hrs in the sun. To ease the pain of sunburn one can apply cool packs. Avoid using heavy ointments and other greasy products. They can clog the pore leading to skin irritation.

Some kitchen remedies:-
Aloe Vera has cooling effects and mostly recommended to treat the condition. Similarly treatment with lavender and aromatherapy will soothe the condition. When chamomile is used while taking showers then the mild case of sunburn can be treated. Replenish the body with fluids and water. Cool the skin with wet compressors and packs. Another way to treat the mild condition is with oatmeal.
