Symptoms and Diagnosis of Brain Tumor

The tumor both benign and malignant ones are harmful and dangerous. This is on account of the fact that with the development and growth of the tumor the pressure on the brain and over the tissues mounts up. This can lead to frequent headaches. Some of the other most common associated symptoms are seizure, partial paralysis, endocrine problem, double vision, sleepiness, change in personality, mood swings, nausea, weakness, blurred vision, mental decline etc. one may find difficulty in speaking as well as loss of hearing in the ear.

The symptom of brain tumor depends on the size and location of the tumor. The increase in intracranial pressure, due to the blockage of cerebral spinal fluid. This ICP increase can further lead to irritability, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, coma, reduction in cardiac or respiratory function etc.

Diagnosis of brain tumor-
The tumor of brain is diagnosed by evaluating various combination and neurological functions of the brain. Doctors opine that with the occurrence of seizure in a person the possibility may increase. The dysfunction of brain is done by physical examination along with other tests. A neurological test is also done to detect its presence.  MRI scan is done to detect the exact tumor. This gives a clear picture of the tumor near the bones, brainstem tumors; low-grade tumors etc. by this correct mapping of the brain can be done.

MRS is also done to get the activity of the brain. CT scan is also suggested to get the detailed picture of the body and its tissues. One can tell the type pf cancer and its location with this. One can also detect swelling in the head, bleeding if any and other related conditions. It is also done to check the effectiveness of the treatment and to see the reoccurrence of the tumor if any. But it is mot as accurate as the MRI. Positron tomography is another way of diagnosing brain tumor.
