Testicular Pain Overview
Testicles are very sensitive male sex organs which remain attached (below) with the penis in a sack of skin known as scrotum. Testicles are very important male organs because they produce male hormones testosterone and many other chemicals which give life to a man. They also produce sperm which comes out of the urethral opening passing through the vas deferens, when a man gets sexually aroused and gets involved into sexual intercourse. Thus these organs need to be taken care of and protected.
Mostly all men feel testicular pain sometime in their whole life which may not be serious and go away soon. But some testicular pains are so serious that they have to be given medical help immediately. Given below are some types of testicular pain and their possible causes.
Testicular pain can be caused due to epididymitis, chlamydia, hydrocele, retractile testicle, mumps, orchitis, retractile testicle, kidney stones, inguinal hernia, spermatocele etc.
Pain of testicles may occur in or around both the testicles or in only one testicle. Since testicles are very sensitive organs, if they get hurt even a bit, pain occurs. This is the reason cricketers protect their testicles with special guard (athletic guard) made only for this reason while playing cricket so that even if the ball hits in the area of their private parts their testicles are not hurt.
When testicles get twisted due to any reason, blood supply is blocked which gives rise to severe pain. This condition is also known as testicular torsion. Such type of pain should be immediately given medical help. If you don’t take it seriously you may have to lose that organ. This problem is commonly seen in males who are between 10-20 years old. There are other cases too when you should seek doctor’s help immediately. If you experience sudden pain in your testicles which is severe or along with testicular pain you have blood in urine and fever too. You may also suffer from nausea along with these symptoms.
Many times pain occurs in testicles if they are sexually aroused but they are not relieved through the ejaculation of the sperm. If there is mild pain in your testicles and continues for many days, you should see a doctor. Also if you observe swelling in or around these organs you should report it to your doctor.
