The most common misconceptions about pregnancy!

It’s common…women can still get confused about pregnancy. Even with so much awareness of what is going on in the female body, there are several misconceptions floating around about how and when a woman can prevent a potential conception. Here are a few of the more common myths floating around regarding pregnancy.I cannot get pregnant during my period

The chance of conceiving is high at any time of the month. Even during your period there are chances that you still have a healthy egg sitting in the fallopian tubes just waiting to get fertilized. And you have to remember that most sperm cells are alive for five to six days in the human body! Conception is very likely!

Breast feeding will protect me from another pregnancy

Not very likely! Ovulation and menstruation will not occur during your breastfeeding time but eventually menstruation will start up again and you will definitely ovulate much before that. Unprotected intercourse before that will result in a pregnancy that you will not be aware of at all.

He does not deposit sperm inside me during intercourse

This is another serious misconception that most women have. Releasing sperm outside the body during ejaculation is great but what about the pre ejaculation release that he has already deposited inside your body? This lubricating fluid also contains sperm that will result in a pregnancy if you have an egg waiting around inside the fallopian tubes.

I can’t get pregnant as its my first time

Very, very false! You will get pregnant every time you have unprotected sex if you have an egg waiting around. And young women are more fertile that elderly women resulting in higher chances of a conception even if its your first time.

Vaginal douching after sex will prevent pregnancy

Vaginal douching is cleaning the vagina after sex or showering after sex. That will not as most sperm cells are safely deposited inside the uterus during sexual intercourse and they are in the process of swimming upward.

Please be warned that having unprotected sex just once even if you are a virgin is enough to get pregnant. Don’t take the risk. Read up on safe sex, use contraceptives and get in touch with a gynecologist for any problems.
