The Pros And Cons Of Dating Versus Marriage

Dating and Marriage are two different levels of a romantic relationship. But often they are treated as two different sides of a coin. Dating and marriage are often contested against each other to prove which one is better, with the least flaws, superior or beneficial for a person.

For those people who are relentlessly looking for an answer to the question “which is better among dating and marriage” we bring here a list of the pros and cons of both the stages of romance, i.e., dating and marriage. It is up to you to go through the list of pros and cons of both dating and marriage and get the best answer for yourself.

Benefits of Dating and Flaws of Marriage

During dating stage in a relationship a person has more freedom which is mostly found missing in marriage. Once a boyfriend or girlfriend turns into a husband or wife, he/she tries to intrude into the privacy or freedom of his/her partner. Men and women are more understanding and liberal regarding their partners and their lives during dating but taking the vow changes this trait in most of the men and women. Many married people assume that asking questions or deciding on their partners’ personal matters is their birth (read marriage) right and seeking approval is the duty of their partners.

Engaging or appearing in various social activities starts depending on the partner post marriage. Prior to marriage a mere intimation of the whereabouts is sufficient and whether you attend the social do or not never depends on your boyfriend or girlfriend. But that is before marriage. After marriage this story does take a different turn and your social activities depend largely on the availability, mood and liking of your partner.

So, if your spouse is not very keen on attending any particular occasion or party you often have to stay out of it too. Not only because it is the unsaid wish of your spouse but also because post marriage you will want to avoid any sarcastic look or embarrassing question on your single presence in any social do. So basically during dating you do not have to even think of any compromise because of your partner. But after marriage only thinking of the compromise is insufficient. You must make the compromise as and when required.

Did we mention the word “friends” in the compromise factor in the last point? Well, among the various compromises one compromise that would call for you post marriage is less and lesser time with your friends. During dating it is always fine that you share a certain amount of the day or week with your friends. But marriage calls for more dedication towards your spouse which means that you have to compromise on that “girly chat” or “guys time out” with your friends.

Advantages of Marriage and Drawbacks of Dating

Marriage does get thumbs up when it comes to security. A married couple is more secured in terms of their relationship or emotional status. Dating can never provide the same level of security to a person. It is much easier to break a relationship during dating phase and thus the emotional security too is at risk. In marriage you not only feel secured about the bond but also have a person to share your entire life and each and every moment of it. There is less chance of being victim to loneliness in marriage as it is in dating.

If we come to the materialistic benefits of marriage then we must consider that marriage leads to greater income and bigger savings. If both partners in a married relationship are working then their collective income is far higher than that of a single person in a dating relationship. Even if the expenses increase after marriage, the total income and savings is still larger.
