The Stress of Loosing a Job and Coping With it
If you have lost a job and have no backup plan to make the ends meet then your mind must be full of negative thoughts.
There are people who feel relieved after loosing a job. However, generally people take it very badly. They go through the stages similar to grief. First, you will be in denial or shock, then in anger or depression and after sometime feel a bit positive and accept the situation.
Don’t think there is anything abnormal of going through different kind of emotions. Try to understand yourself and give yourself time to adjust to this new situation. End the feelings of anger and frustration so that you no longer lash out at those around you and are able to control those panic attacks. There is nothing wrong in taking out your grief but do it in a healthy way. This will calm you down and also help you in taking the next step.
After the layoff, negotiate with your employer about the severance pay. Try to take whatever advantage you can from the company. The company may not provide you with any monetary benefits but sometimes they help you in coping and finding a new job.
Try to have a good support system of friends and family. Don’t start looking for a job immediately because you may not be able to find one. Try to be with people who have gone through or are going through the same situation. This will help you get some good ideas and stay motivated also. Utilize this time to calm yourself and connect with your family.
If you want to stay out of depression then make a routine and follow it. Add exercise in your routine as we all know it is a great stress buster. You need to simplify your life and learn methods to conserve money as soon as possible
Work on your networking; don’t feel embarrassed in talking to others because almost everyone who is working has gone through this phase at one time or the other.
