Mental health for you is equally important as your physical health. If you are mentally healthy, you will be able to face difficult situations and can build and maintain good relationship. If you are mentally healthy, you will be contented and love your life. Here are some tips for good mental health.
Exercise: Do regular exercise to attain good mental health. Exercise improves your blood circulation and immune system. It makes your body release endorphins, which work like antidote to problems like depression and stress. Physical exercises such as walking, jogging, dancing, swimming, weight lifting etc not only enhances your mood but also keep your lungs and heart strong. Playing games like solving puzzles, riddles, crossword, chess etc keep you engrossed and thus keep you away from stress. These mental activities are good for mental health.
Healthy diet is very important for good mental health. Your food affects your brain and mood. Banana is good for your brain as it increases serotonin level which enhances your mood. So if you are not a diabetic you should eat at least one banana daily. Garlic, tomatoes, pineapple, nuts etc too are good for brain.
Whether you love cooking or not you should try to cook something for yourself. If you can cook well, you can invite others to join you. If you cook regularly, try something new at regular intervals. Get sufficient rest so that your brain and body can function properly the next day. If you are old, take short nap in afternoon. It will fill you with energy.
Stay connected with your friends and family. If you have not talked to your friend for a long time either call him/her or send email. There are many social networking sites too which can keep you connected to your old friends. Spend some time with someone you trust.
Don’t do everything for money. If you enjoy doing something, do it frequently even if you are not paid for it. Fishing, cooking, staging a play, playing games are good things which you can do for fun and enjoyment. Don’t set unrealistic goals. Do according to your efficiency and capabilities. This will minimize stress. To avoid stress you can also cultivate stress management techniques. You can keep some pets like dogs, birds etc to relieve you from stress. Above all, you should be prepared to accept the change which can’t be changed.
